Bio

J. Allen Meadows, MD, was born in Ozark, AL, and raised in the Marietta GA. Even as a high school student, Dr. Meadows wanted to become an allergist under the mentorship of his own allergist, Jerry Vanderpoole, MD. After completing his medical training, he returned to Montgomery, the home of his wife Charlotte, to establish a new allergy practice in July 1991. He was in a community-based solo practice for 30 years until he proudly joined the AllerVie family in July 2021.

Dr. Meadows treats patients of all ages for the complete range of allergic illnesses and asthma. He believes that everyone with allergies and asthma should be able to live a completely normal life without compromise with allergy treatment. Dr. Meadows is a tireless advocate for the rights of patients, serving as a board member and respiratory chair for the Alliance for Patient Access, a group dedicated to ensuring that allergy and asthma patients have affordable access to life changing therapies like allergy shots and Biologics. Dr. Meadows is active in his community- and believes that by taking a proactive stand on medical issues he will better serve his patients’ needs. He has been heavily involved in advocacy, especially in-person, throughout his career. He is the current Past President of the American College of Allergy Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI). He is Past President of the Joint Council of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, the Alabama Society for Allergy, and the Montgomery County Medical Society. He previously served on the Board of the Medical Association of the the State of Alabama, and as Chairman of the Advocacy Council of the ACAAI. In addition to his continuing work on the Advocacy Council of ACAAI, Dr. Meadows serves on the ACAAI Budget and Finance Committee, the Board of Regents, and the Executive Committee. Dr. Meadows is a clinical instructor of family practice at the Montgomery Family Medicine Residency Program, a clinical instructor at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his medical degree at the University of South Carolina, and completed his residency in Mobile, AL. He finished his adult and pediatric allergy fellowship in Denver, CO at the National Jewish Center, National Referral Center for Allergy and Asthma. In his personal time, Dr. Meadows enjoys travel with his wife, Charlotte, watching baseball with his sons Dodge & Daniel (wife Rayna), time with his daughter Melanie Beth (husband Brent) and new granddaughter Rosemary.

Provider Update

After many dedicated years of providing compassionate care to the Montgomery, Alabama community, Dr. J. Allen Meadows will be retiring and transitioning away from practicing medicine full-time. Working alongside Dr. Meadows, who has served in such an important role in the AllerVie Health network, has been both a privilege and an honor. He has been an outstanding business partner, and we hope that his retirement is filled with the happiness and joy he deserves.
