Ami Hannam, MD

Bio

Dr. Ami Hannam is a board-certified allergist and immunologist dedicated to providing exceptional, evidence-based care to patients of all ages. Inspired by seeing the impact allergic disease had on several family members during her childhood, she pursued a career focused on helping individuals and families overcome allergies, asthma, and related immune conditions so they can enjoy healthier, more active lives.

Dr. Hannam earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin before completing her Internal Medicine residency and serving as Chief Resident at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University/Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. She went on to complete her fellowship in Allergy & Immunology at Rush University Medical Center. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), and the International Society for the Advancement of Allergy and Immunology (ISAAI).

For more than 15 years, Dr. Hannam has cared for patients throughout the Chicagoland area, treating asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, food allergies, and immunodeficiency in both pediatric and adult patients. She is known for building long-term relationships with her patients grounded in trust, clear communication, and cultural understanding. She pays close attention to the environmental factors and social determinants of health that influence allergic and immunologic conditions in the communities she serves, incorporating these insights into personalized, sustainable treatment plans.

A strong advocate for expanding access to care, Dr. Hannam has been an early adopter of telehealth, using secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to reach patients in underserved areas and ensure continuity of care. She has also contributed to research and community education efforts, including studies on asthma education programs for low-income, minority school-aged children and adolescents, work that was recognized with the Health Outcomes Education Delivery and Quality (HEDQ) Interest Section Award at the AAAAI 2010 Annual Meeting.

Dr. Hannam is semi-fluent in Spanish, which allows her to connect more deeply with the diverse patient populations she serves. Outside of the office, she enjoys travel, photography, scrapbooking, exercise, and spending time with her family.
