In a recent interview with Lauren Munt at KOSA First Alert 7, AllerVie Health physician Dr. Miguel Wolbert emphasized the importance of distinguishing between measles and other illnesses with similar symptoms, such as the flu, COVID-19, and allergies. With the recent measles outbreak in West Texas, understanding these differences is more critical than ever.

How Measles Symptoms Differ

Measles typically begins with:
✔️ High fever
✔️ Cough and runny nose
✔️ Red, watery eyes
✔️ A distinctive rash that starts on the face and spreads downward

Unlike measles, the flu and COVID-19 often cause respiratory symptoms such as cough and sore throat, but they do not present with the telltale measles rash. Meanwhile, an allergy rash pops up all over your body at random, but generally has no associated fever.

Dr. Wolbert urges the public to stay informed and seek medical attention if symptoms arise. Most importantly, vaccination remains the best defense against measles, preventing infection and stopping the spread of this highly contagious disease.
